EUROPEAN COMMISSION ALLOCATES €1.1 BILLION TO IMPROVE EUROPE’S TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

The European Commission has launched a €1.1 billion call for proposals to build and upgrade the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) transport infrastructure. This is the last such call under the current long-term European budget for 2021-2027.
The selected projects will support the implementation of key transport proposals. They will contribute to the development of the EU’s High-Speed Rail Plan and the Industrial Action Plan for the European Automotive Sector, while strengthening maritime connectivity in line with the recently presented EU strategies for industrial, maritime and port transport. The funding will also strengthen Europe’s defence readiness by addressing military mobility challenges and supporting the swift implementation of the EU’s Military Mobility Package.
The call has a particular focus on rail, decarbonisation of maritime transport and military mobility. It also supports the electrification of road freight and ground operations at airports, the deployment of charging infrastructure in sea and inland ports, and the digitalisation of road transport.
Ukraine and Moldova are also included in the call under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), reflecting their deepening transport links with the EU.
CEF is the EU’s flagship instrument for financing and implementing the TEN-T policy. Projects selected under the 2026 call will help create smarter, more efficient and more sustainable transport infrastructure; improve interoperability; and strengthen the resilience of transport networks across the EU.
The deadline for applications is 6 October 2026. More information about the call is available online.
