The European Commission proposed to cancel customs duties on Ukrainian goods for another year
The European Commission (EC) proposed to extend the suspension of import duties, quotas and trade protection measures on Ukrainian exports to the European Union for another year.
As reported on the website of the European Commission.
"This is a continuation of the EU's ongoing support for Ukraine's economy and helps to mitigate the difficult situation in which Ukrainian manufacturers and exporters found themselves due to Russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression," the message states.
At the same time, the European Commission noted that the decision to extend the preferential regime for Ukrainian goods will take into account the concerns of the EU industry.
To this end, and taking into account the significant increase in imports of certain agricultural products from Ukraine to the EU in 2022, the updated ATMs contain an accelerated protection mechanism to protect the Union market if necessary.
"To this end, as well as taking into account the significant increase in the import of some agricultural products from Ukraine to the EU in 2022, the updated autonomous trade measures contain an accelerated protective mechanism to protect the EU market in case of need," the message reads.
The proposal of the European Commission has yet to be considered by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
As reported, the decision of the European Union to cancel all customs duties and fees for Ukrainian exports entered into force on June 4, 2022.
The following were suspended for a period of one year, in particular:
• the effect of all tariffs according to Chapter IV of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine, which have not yet been liberalized. In particular, the suspension of current duties and quotas applies to industrial products, fruits and vegetables, as well as agricultural products and processed agricultural products;
• application of anti-dumping duties on imports from Ukraine;
• application of general rules regarding imports from Ukraine.
However, representatives of a number of countries neighboring Ukraine demanded to review the preferential trade regime, primarily due to complaints from local farmers about the increase in imports of Ukrainian agricultural products.
