A cargo of tropical fruits arrived at the port of Reni for the first time since the independence of Ukraine
Last week, the refrigerated ship "ZEINAB" arrived at the port of Reni, which is equipped with enhanced ventilation and refrigeration units for the transportation of perishable goods. This is reported by the information agency "Yug.Today" with reference to the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine (AMPU).
The ship transported 519.9 tons of fruit from Egypt: 150.3 tons of oranges, 169.4 tons of pomegranates, 31,050 tons of lemons and 169 tons of tangerines.
Unloading of the ship takes place according to the "ship-road transport" option. Then the fruit will go to the final consumer.
Traditionally, citrus fruits were transshipped by the ports of Chornomorsk and Odesa.
The port of Chornomorsk used to be the leader in transshipment of this type of cargo. So, in 2018, 83.6 thousand tons of products were transshipped here. In 2019 – 74.1 thousand tons, in 2020 – 43 thousand tons, in 2021 – 35.5 thousand tons, in 2022 – 16.8 thousand tons. For Odesa, these figures were 45.4 thousand tons, 40.4 thousand tons, 26.5 thousand tons, 14.3 thousand tons, and 7.6 thousand tons, respectively.
But since now the ports of Great Odesa work only within the framework of the work of the "Grain Initiative", cargo owners are looking for other ways to deliver citrus fruits to consumers. Therefore, the port of Reni receives a cargo of tropical fruits for the first time in the years of independence.
