Container lines showed the highest schedule reliability in two and a half years
The indicator of the reliability of the schedule of global container transportation increased in February 2023 by 7.7 percentage points compared to the indicator in January - up to 60.2%.
According to data from Sea-Intelligence Consulting, this is the highest figure since August 2020.
the schedule reliability indicator has returned to the values it was at before the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Compared to February last year, the line schedule compliance index increased by 26 percentage points.
The average delay time of vessels in February decreased by 0.07 days to 5.29 days. Compared to February last year, delays decreased by an average of 2.3 days.
Of the 14 largest carriers, Maersk and MSC had the highest service reliability index in February 2023 — 64.9% and 64.4%, respectively. They are followed by Hamburg Süd, which had a schedule compliance index of 60%.
The rest of the carriers had a schedule compliance rate of 50-60%, including Zim, which showed the lowest rate in February at 52%.
In general, all 14 largest lines compared to the previous month recorded an increase in the indicator of compliance with the schedule.
Compared to February last year, all lines without exception showed a double-digit increase in the schedule compliance index, with Wan Hai recording an improvement of 36.2 percentage points.
In 2022, the average indicator of the schedule reliability of global container transportation rose to the best level since the beginning of the coronavirus restrictions — 42.3%, by the end of the year the compliance with the schedule increased to 56.5%.
