During the year of the war, Russia increased its export of agricultural products to world markets

05 July
2023

According to the results of 2022, Russia once again entered the top 20 global agricultural exporters, increasing its share in global exports from 1.9% to 2.1% and rising from 18th to 17th place in the ranking. In monetary terms, according to the results of last year, Russian exports of agricultural products increased by 12% to 41.6 billion dollars. Among the largest buyers of Russian food are China (12.3%), Turkey (12.2%), Kazakhstan (8.2%), Belarus (6.7%), South Korea (5.6%) and Egypt (5 .3%).

The main export product was grain, on which the aggressor country earned $13 billion in 2022. Also, the Russian Federation was able to increase the export of oil and fat products, increasing the share of its deliveries from 15.6% in 2019 to 22% in 2022.

As the Russians themselves explain, the decrease in the export of agricultural products from Ukraine contributed to the increase in these indicators. Which, as you know, is due to the war that the Russian Federation is waging against our country and Russia's blockade of Ukrainian seaports. Another factor that Russian experts do not talk about is the export of stolen Ukrainian grain by the Russians.

It is noteworthy that in other positions of agricultural exports, which are not critical for Ukraine (such as meat or dairy products), the position of the Russian Federation has not changed or even worsened.

We will remind you that in recent weeks, Russia has repeatedly stated that July 18 may be the end date of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, thanks to which Ukraine was able to at least partially export agricultural products from the ports of Great Odesa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine did not rule out that this could really happen. "99.9% of Russia will abandon the grain initiative in July. Two main factors, in my opinion: Erdogan successfully won the election. Russian oligarch Dmitry Mazepin reported to Putin that the terminal for the export of ammonia from the Russian Federation is almost completed, which means that the Tolyatti ammonia pipeline "Odesa is not that important anymore," says Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on special assignments, coordinator of the Council of Exporters and Investors Olha Trofimtseva.

It should be noted that in May the number of ship calls to the ports of Greater Odessa amounted to only 40. At the same time, the Black Sea ports of the Russian Federation received 1,184 ships in May.
