Kamyshin does not consider it necessary to let locomotives from the EU to Ukraine

The chairman of the board of "Ukrzaliznytsia" does not see the need for the admission of locomotives of European carriers to the UZ network to border stations. According to Oleksandr Kamyshin, his company handles volumes of cross-border transportation.

As TTS writes with reference to Rail.Insider, Kamyshin spoke about this during the "Infrastructure Day" at the EBA.

"We will agree to such conditions only if we cannot do it ourselves. For now, we calmly do it ourselves. There is no problem for anyone to have our locomotives deliver something somewhere. I understand that this is a phantom pain from the past, when the railway did not have enough locomotives. Today, there are enough. We are doing everything to ensure that they continue to be enough. Because of this, we will not do it simply to open passage through Ukraine for someone to check," the head of the UZ said.

He added that Ukrzaliznytsia is now trying to promote its traction services abroad: "This is the business we are fighting for. On the contrary, we are going with our locomotives to neighboring countries."

It is not specified which countries are in question. In the summer, it was reported that Ukrainian locomotives began to drive freight trains through Moldova. But this is transit transportation of Ukrainian goods to the port of Reni.

We will remind that a few days ago, the representative of the Freightliner company in Ukraine, Denys Orlov, expressed the opinion that the Ministry of Infrastructure could allow the running of locomotives of carriers from the European Union to the nearest border stations in the middle of Ukraine on the European and broad gauge. This would help to solve the problem of the shortage of rolling stock, and therefore would contribute to speeding up transportation.
